Monumentum

In mo now Mentum told stories about World War II and with a drawing displayed.

It concerns personal stories about this war – from all kinds of perspectives. They are traditions, memories, family stories, via via stories and images that someone has when he now thinks of that war. You don't need to have experienced the war to share a story.

This art project is an initiative of visual artist Jacques Offenbach who captures the stories in a drawing, consisting of one line.

Jacques Offenbach

“I make an image of many memories consisting of one line and one color. This symbolizes one decisive moment, one image, one echo, one defining momentum. I have chosen this form because that is what remains. Many memories are now disappearing with the last survivors. Many stories disappear with time. Some stories live in families, but are otherwise unknown. Images also live in someone's mind, something that is not easily shared. I see the drawings I make of it as a kind of echo of someone. And a series of echoes gives perspective, gives rise to a conversation now. Right now. As a kind of struggle against indifference, because I think that is the greatest enemy of our freedom.”
